Buying a House FAQ: How many homes should I see before making an offer?

As part of our efforts to create the ultimate Buying a House Homeowner’s guides we are constantly searching the web for great pieces of advice.

Like many people my age, I want to eventually buy a house in the near future but do not exactly understand how to first go about this. Should I contact a professional? What kind of expenses am I in for?

Perhaps more puzzling than anything, how many houses should I look at before deciding on “the one”? It may seem like a trivial question but it’s probably the most important in deciding on a home you will possibly live in for the rest of your life. Here are what some people are saying:

But of course, this varies between specific people:

“Some people find their home within hours of hunting. For others, it takes months.” If you want to streamline the process, it can help to really hone in on a particular neighborhood you’re keen on; that said, if you feel limited by your options, it may be time to expand to surrounding areas.
